FAQ

Do I need experience?

No experience necessary! Our staff will give you basic waterway information, necessary hydrobike instruction and  safety information.

Are the Hydrobikes hard to ride?

Hydrobikes are not hard to ride. Safe and easy for all ages. Hydrobikes average cruise speed is around 8 k/h but can travel up to 16 k/h. It takes about as much effort as walking. Depending on your needs, the Hydrobike can provide a nice easy cruise or a calorie burning workout.

Are Hydrobikes just like riding a bike?

Yes but easier. There are a couple differences. The Hydrobikes don’t require balance and are stable in the water, they won’t fall over. The main difference is in the steering. If you turn the handlebar too sharply, the rudder will act more like a brake than a rudder.

How stable is it?

Hydrobikes are very stable, they will not tip with riders jumping up and down on side decks . Riders can jump off and climb back aboard without tipping. They are designed to safely carry 135 kg’s of rider, cargo, and passengers.

What are the age/weight/height requirements of the bikes?

Safety is our first priority. Skyline Hydrobikes cannot handle persons weighing more than 125 kg’s on our bikes. The bike can carry an additional passenger on its platform with a total weight of 400 lbs. Children under the age of 15 must wear life vests, as does anyone who is unable to swim. Riders must be around 56 inches tall or taller. Individuals of any age can ride as long as they can safely operate the vessel. Adults who appear intoxicated or impaired will not be allowed to ride and will forfeit the paid price on the vessel.

Is it safe?

Yes. From its stability to its high visibility on the water, the Hydrobike is engineered for a safe, reliable ride for all ages with no skill or ability required

Why do I need to sign a waiver?

As previously stated, safety is our first priority. Waivers are required to ensure safe operation of the Hydrobikes. Just as there are risks associated with riding a regular bike, there are also risks of riding a Hydrobike .

What if I’m bringing someone else’s kids with me, can I sign their waiver?

NO! If you are bringing someone else’s child with you then please ask  their parent or legal guardian to go to our website and sign the electronic waiver before the date of participation.

Will I get wet when riding a Hydrobike?

Riding the Hydrobikes does not require getting wet. Most of the time riders do not get wet during their rides but in a light chop your feet will likely get splashed a little. The Hydrobike is stable enough to jump off and climb back on to safely so if you want to get really wet, you can! Each bike has a built-in storage compartment that can stow extra clothes, cargo, and features two cup holders!

What should I wear?

Wear whatever is comfortable and weather appropriate. Shoes are optional. Weather can be hard to predict, so layers are a good idea and there is plenty of room in the console to stow them. We do not recommend overly loose or flowing pants or skirts because they can get tangled in the bike chain. Waterproof sunscreen is also a good option. Protect yourself with clothes or sunscreen.

What should I bring?

The console on each Hydrobike has room for plenty of gear plus two drink holders (sorry, but no alcohol). What you bring is up to you but we recommend that you consider the following items: Sunglasses with a floating leash, Sunscreen/lip balm, Hat, Weather appropriate clothing, Fly Spray, Towel/change of clothes (if you plan to get wet), Camera, Drink/snacks, Necessary personal medication, especially for any known allergies.

Can I bring my camera or electronics?

Yes! Our Hydrobikes offer great photo opportunities, but use them at your own risk. We suggest using your camera’s wrist strap just in case!

Can I bring my dog?

We are dog friendly and you are welcome to bring your dog on our Hydrobikes.

Is this a good workout?

Yes, hydrobikes provide a gentle, low impact aerobic total body workout; but it all depends on how fast you pedal!

How many calories can I burn?

According to Frank Katch, Professor of Exercise Science at the University of Massachusetts, & Victor Katchwater, Professor of Movement Science at the University of Michigan, “moderate water cycling (about 60% maximum) burned an average of 546 calories per hour. The caloric burn is 8% greater than outdoor bicycling at a speed of 16-19 kilometres per hour.”

Are reservations required?

To expediate the time it takes to get on the water, most bookings must be made online before participation. Waivers must also be completed prior to riding. Want to get on your bike even faster? Come with your waiver printed and signed!

How do I make reservations?

Reservations can be made online through our Book Now tab. It is easy, just select the Tour option, date and time you would like to reserve.

What time should I get there?

Please arrive 15 minutes before the time you booked your reservation. That gives you the time to check in, confirm waiver completed and attend the Safety briefing.

Can I walk up and ride?

Yes, we do accept walk ups, but cannot guarantee availability or space.

Can I reserve for future times in person?

Yes, just ask one of the staff to arrange for you. Note that payment will be required on booking.
